Montreal Salsa Congress 2005

.

Mambo Tribe had an excellent time performing and teaching at the Montreal Salsa Convention April 2005.

Friday night, although we arrived at the Holiday Inn at midnight and missed the opening shows, we went to dance immediately and had a great time dancing to Henry Knowles' tunes til 3am. Saturday was held at Metropolis, around the corner (sort of) from the hotel. Pitty it rained all weekend so lining up for the big salsa event in the rain wasn't ideal. The venue was huge, however it looked like a dark club with flashing lights and a very sticky, rubbery floor.

Shows were in 2 sets so there wasn't too much room left for social dancing. First set was around 9:30-11:30 and the second set was at 1am-2am. Although there were rumours that it was suppposed to wrap at 5am it actually wrapped at 3am. Amongst the performers were Toronto's Rolan & Gorete, Dance to Live, an all-new Los Salsomanos, Montreal's Saltimambo, Latin Spirit, San Tropez & Caroline Pare's company, Julio the modern dancer (wow!), New York's Santo Rico in top form, Spain's Jose-Antonio & Mila, Puerto Rico's Jayson Molina with Alessandra, Philly's Art in Motion, NJ's Cultural Explosion, Bermuda's Travis & Angela.

We were so happy to see so many Toronto salsa addicts out and supportin'. Sunday there were 6 shows at Salsa Tech-too small/too packed for such a big event-Milton Cobo and his lovely partner Samantha improved, as well as Travis & Angela...Victor and Corrine of San Tropez were smashing as well as Santo Rico with their gangsta routine. That is hard one to top!
